Blog - Investing Notes
January 9, 2008 - Investor Interests: 2007 Site Access Log Analysis
What categories of information are of broadest interest to readers of this web site, who might be characterized as fairly sophisticated investors and traders? Using a listing of the Top 50 most visited directories for all of 2007, we find that...
The following pie chart presents a top-level breakdown of 2007 site visits by content category. This breakdown excludes traffic to the home page and to administrative/tools sections. The breakdown is imperfect because there is some crossover of content across categories. For example, reviews of stock market gurus sometime appear in Blog - Investing Notes, but we assign this traffic to the "research/analysis" category. Moreover, some content did not exist for all of 2007. In general, this breakdown suggests that site visitors are:
Very interested in capabilities/methods of specific stock market experts with regard to anticipating financial markets behavior. (In fact, readers have suggested much of the content for this category.)
Very interested in regular summaries of quantitative research aimed at understanding and predicting financial markets behavior. The methodology of using only the Top 50 directories likely understates the use of this category.
Somewhat interested in the valuation framework offered by simple, largely conventional stock market models.
For a closer look at the top-level breakdown, we drill down within categories.
