What Software and Data Do You Use?

Several readers have asked about the software tools and data/information sources used to develop CXOAdvisory.com content.
Tools for content development on CXOAdvisory.com are:
Microsoft Excel for simple original analyses, including an archive of about 200 analyses sometimes adaptable to new ones. It is arguable, based on the barriers to reliable inference outlined in “The Demon’s Drudgery” , that deeper empirical analysis of asset markets faces steeply diminishing returns.
Publicly available and free data sources, cited with links each time used, so that readers can replicate and check results if they wish. Sometimes public data sources disappear, so some older posts may no longer satisfy these criteria.
Monitoring and searching the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), as described in “How Do You Keep Up with New Research?”, to locate more sophisticated and data-intensive analyses.
Occasional broader searches of the web via Google on special topics.
